McDonald’s, founded in 1940 in San Bernardino, California, USA, is one of the world’s largest fast-food restaurant chains, serving approximately 69 million customers daily in over 100 countries across approximately 36,900 outlets (as of 2016). Most McDonald’s restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent, local businessmen and businesswomen franchises. The McDonald’s Corporation revenues come from the rent, royalties, and fees paid by the franchisees, as well as sales in company-operated restaurants.

Business Challenge

McDonald India (CPRPL) was using multiple systems for managing back-office processes:

  • MS Dynamics NAV – Finance
  • OSMS – Sales Integration with POS and Requisition Management
  • NetSuite – Distribution Management

This disparate method of managing the business was proving costly to maintain and presenting data redundancy and synchronization issues. These challenges were time consuming and did not produce the desired results CPRPL wanted.

Additionally CPRPL needed to be GST ready before the rollout and introduce a CRM solution. The team was looking for a Microsoft Dynamics implementation partner to manage a smooth transition from multiple systems to one single system and ensure GST readiness.

Solution

OnActuate formed a strong team of Microsoft Dynamics NAV experts (consultants and project managers). Our team had a sound understanding of CPRPL processes and local tax regulations. The following plan was formulated and executed to ensure a smooth transition:

  1. Upgrade Microsoft Dynamics NAV solution from version 2009 to 2016
  2. Integrate NetSuite
  3. Replace OSMS

Hammond Power Solutions (HPS) is a leading designer and manufacturer of dry-type magnetic transformers in the world—products can be found on every continent and ocean, and have even been orbited in space. In the last 99 years, HPS has grown from a small family-owned business in the shortwave radio market to becoming the largest dry-type transformer manufacturer in North America, with multiple manufacturing facilities throughout Canada, United States, Mexico, Italy and India. The HPS engineering database contains over one million designs ranging from the smallest control transformers to the largest dry-type transformers ever manufactured. In an industry where stability, integrity, quality, and speed to market are paramount, HPS has a reputation for excellence.

Dzcard is a leading end-to-end smart card solutions provider in Southeast Asia and Africa. Over the last 50 years, it has built an outstanding global reputation for manufacturing smart cards and high-end security products.

Business Challenge

Using different ERP applications at different locations caused three key business challenges:

  1. dzcard had no controls when it came to procurement requests.
  2. Calculating actual profit at the sales invoice level was a challenge because the process was manual, and it took too much time at month-end to close the books.
  3. The production operation time was captured outside of the system, so it was difficult to get real-time data and clarity on utilization of resources.

Dzcard wanted to optimize efficiencies by moving all its locations to one application with both global and local features.

Solution

Dzcard partnered with OnActuate to implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 14 (D365 BC). This project resolved dzcard’s business challenges and streamlined processes through automation, direct data capture, and production lifecycle monitoring. Key improvements include:

  1. Utilizing automated features like workflows for procurement requests, so printed documents no longer require a manual signature.
  2. Capturing required sales information directly into the system to get desired profitability information in just a few clicks – no manual calculation required.
  3. Capturing the production operation time directly in the system to maintain transparency with departments and management. In addition, D365 BC monitors the production lifecycle to identify opportunities where dzcard can eliminate waste and reduce equipment downtime.

UniCarriers Americas Corporation (Unicarriers) is the world’s leading manufacturer of forklifts. With a long and colourful history, the company was founded in 1914 manufacturing manual pallet trucks. Over the next 100 years, Barrett Industrial Trucks, TCM, and Nissan Forklift companies contributed to the successful evolution of UniCarriers. Today UniCarriers’ state-of-the-art Marengo, Illinois facility sets the global standards for forklift manufacturing..

Business Challenge

UniCarriers was in the process of implementing Microsoft Dynamics AX and CRM, including the Core Finance and Manufacturing and Distribution modules. Fourteen months into the implementation cycle, UniCarriers realized that it was unable to meet key deadlines for the rollout implementation project due to challenges with key interfaces, data migration, project management, development and AX subject matter expertise.

UniCarriers recognized the need for a Microsoft Dynamics service provider that could assist them with the implementation and service delivery improvement.

Viscor Inc. (Viscor) is a Toronto-based manufacturer specializing in LED and fluorescent lighting products, as well as metal fabrication. Viscor is Canada’s largest independent lighting manufacturer under the Visioneering, Certolux, and TBR lighting brands. Since its inception in 1952, Viscor has manufactured a diverse range of products including electronic and stereo components and solid state ballasts. The micro-furnace ceramic heater was invented and developed at Viscor, and it maintains the capability to manufacture almost any sheet metal product required or requested while leading the way with modern technology and advanced processes. Viscor employs over 300 people and offers more than 150 product families across North America.

Business Challenge

Although utilizing Microsoft Dynamics AX and Salesforce, the systems were operating as stand-alones and the lack of integration and synchronization was presenting the team with multiple problems, including duplication of efforts and poor sales visibility. Viscor knew it needed help to solve the issues and determined the solution had to be in place within six months—this required outsourced system integration expertise.

Solution

To meet the aggressive timeline, OnActuate was quick to form a team of experts and develop a global integration connector between Viscor’s existing Salesforce CRM and Microsoft Dynamics AX systems. Now Viscor is able to share customer order and sales data across the enterprise. This has resulted in 15% productivity and efficiency improvements since the implementation—and this number continues to grow—all at a reduced cost to the business

The AB Volvo Group (Volvo) is a Swedish multinational manufacturing company, headquartered in Gothenburg. While its core activity is the production, distribution and sale of trucks, buses and construction equipment, Volvo also supplies marine and industrial drive systems and financial services. Volvo Cars (Volvo), also based in Gothenburg, has been independent since sold to Ford Motor Company in 1999. Since 2010, Volvo Cars has been owned by the Geely Holding Group, a Chinese multinational automotive manufacturing company and produces a premium range of cars that includes sedans, wagons, sports-wagons, cross-country cars, and SUVs. Both AB Volvo and Volvo Cars share the Volvo logo.

Business Challenge

Volvo, utilizing Microsoft Dynamics AX, was experiencing a bottleneck in its business process due to a lack of IDMS (Integrated Dealer Management System) experts on its team. This deficiency was preventing Volvo from meeting its localization business goals and it determined the need for a capable integration team with IDMS expertise.

Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (Wa State L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety, health and security of Washington’s 2.5 million workers. It helps employers meet safety and health standards and inspect workplaces when alerted to hazards. As administrators of the state’s workers’ compensation system, Wa State L&I helps ensure workers are paid what they are owed, that children’s and teens’ work hours are limited, and that consumers are protected from unsound building practices. Wa L&I serves customers in 19 offices throughout Washington state, and has approximately 2,800 skilled employees, including safety inspectors, claims specialists, nurses, researchers, accountants, labor experts, and support staff.

Business Challenge

Wa State L&I’s budget management unit manages $715 million, from 15 different funds, biennially. The agency’s budgeting and planning needs were managed by a customized web based application developed by in-house staff, other in-house and statewide financial systems, Excel spreadsheets, and shared drives. These legacy applications routinely caused data integrity issues, reporting anomalies, and system speed issues resulting in staff downtime, and rework checking numbers due to low level of confidence in system. Wa State L&I determined it needed a new solution and expertise to manage the transition.

Solution

OnActuate stepped in, formed a team of Microsoft Dynamics 365 experts, and put together the following objectives:

  • Provide quick access to consolidated budgetary information on a single platform
  • Develop a roadmap to an integrated system that allows for flexibility to meet enterprise needs and that supports operational and strategic objectives and goals, starting with a budget module
  • Provide a system that substantially improves the quality of service provided to end users, management and decision makers
  • Provide better decision making across the organization based on ability to share information and analyze business reporting data

Within just three months of starting this project, OnActuate is able to test the system and has a solid implementation plan.

Hempel is a global company – a world-leading supplier of trusted coating solutions – headquartered in Denmark, working with customers in the protective, marine, decorative, container, and yacht industries. Hempel employs 6,700 people in 80 countries and has 28 factories and 15 R&D centers.

Business Challenge

Hempel has embarked on the journey to upgrade their business application from AX2009 to D365 F&O across 60+ countries, across continents with an in-house team of AX/D365 resources, however were needing a partner with experienced and dedicated resources with good knowledge of not only the product but also the business, to help them meet stiff challenge of timely rolling out D365 F&O across all their geographies.

Solution

A global Microsoft Dynamics 365 roll out program has kicked off in 2019 and is expected to be completed by 2021. Our team is involved in the project, along with Hempel’s internal Microsoft Dynamics team to successfully roll out Microsoft Dynamics 365 across Europe, followed by the Middle East, Asia, US, and the rest of the world.

There is also an upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to Microsoft Dynamics 365 going on across multiple entities globally. OnActuate has provided a Microsoft Dynamics 365 functional team. To start with, our consultants’ job is to map their existing SOPs written on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to D365 F&O. The ultimate plan is to assist Hempel’s internal Microsoft Dynamics team during D365 F&O roll out, go-live, and to provide post-go-live support. We are engaging with Hempel in an onshore-offshore delivery model.
