The past year has challenged individuals and companies around the world to adapt in nearly every realm of human life. Technological innovation has been crucial, and its development has been brought into the spotlight. Microsoft and other leaders anticipate that the world will continue its digital transformation and use technology to remove roadblocks and increase productivity.

Microsoft Ignite is an annual conference that brings together technology leaders and practitioners to share technological innovations. We compiled a list of five key updates for everyday Microsoft Business Applications users that were announced at the March 2021 virtual event:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Intelligent Order Management

Currently in preview, D365 Intelligent Order Management will allow organizations to manage the lifecycle of an order and quickly address supply chain disruptions for on-time delivery. Organizations will be able to automate the fulfillment process using rules-based orchestration, augmented by big data, AI, and machine learning. Best yet, it leverages pre-built connectors to integrate with existing enterprise systems to support order intake and fulfillment end-to-end. Industries such as manufacturing would benefit exponentially from D365 Intelligent Order Management.

New customer engagement capabilities for Dynamics 365 Field Service

Microsoft announced developments to their already robust Field Service offerings coming April 1. These capabilities enhance the end customer’s experience through valuable offerings such as allowing them to keep up-to-date on when their technician will arrive, rate their visit, get automated service reminders, utilize Remote Assist existing capabilities, and more. As a benefit to the organization, this reduces back-office costs by reducing personnel time, scheduling errors, and rescheduling events. These new capabilities will assist industries such as manufacturing when it comes to customer experience and engagement.

Power Platform new features

With so many new features coming to the Power Platform, we are focusing on Fx and Governance. Microsoft published their first low-code programming language called Microsoft Power Fx. This utilizes Excel functions that many are familiar with as the language to create Power Apps. This is an exciting opportunity for citizen developers!

Microsoft also released a Center of Excellence (CoE) starter kit for governance. There are new capabilities coming to the Power Platform Admin Center, including better reporting and enhanced security standards to improve data loss prevention (DLP).

Microsoft Teams & Dynamics 365 + Power Platform – ‘better together’ unified collaboration for modern business

Microsoft is finally bringing its Cloud technologies together under one unified umbrella, in what we at OnActuate like to think of as a single Microsoft Cloud offering. At Ignite, Microsoft announced the ability to make processes more collaborative and accessible between Microsoft Teams and Dynamics 365. From Sales to Marketing, Customer Service to Field Service and HR, Microsoft is leveraging Teams to help employees perform their critical job functions remotely while remaining engaged with their team. These functions are necessitated by remote work forced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Capabilities for Azure Purview

Azure Purview has new capabilities including a data governance service. This functionality expands on existing tools to automatically scan and classify data across a variety of sources. The new capabilities of purview allow database and security administrators to maximize the business value of hybrid data.

At OnActuate, we embrace the evolutionary nature of technology and the importance of change. Because the last year has required so much development, it can be especially difficult to stay current on the latest in technology. OnActuate is your resource to help keep up!
