Streamlining a migration to Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations for Utility Company

Upgrade – Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations/
Dynamics AX

About the Company

TMWA is a community-owned water utility. The organization’s skilled workforce ensures the treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water to more than 385,000 residents.

Our initial expectations for a D365 Partner were that the Partner had deep expertise with D365 and the individual modules and equally important, proven experience with success migrating clients from AX2012 to D365. OnActuate met and exceeded these criteria.

Business Challenge

TMWA required an experienced partner that would streamline a migration to Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. TMWA had fairly straightforward processes with little or no customization. The decision to migrate was to leverage certain functionalities and technical benefits that only the D365 version had.

Solution

OnActuate’s ‘city in a box’ process centric approach with clearly defined scope processes aligned well with TMWA’s methodology. The project started back in July 2019 and completed in February 2020. The migration to the new platform met the project goals while delivering added value. The project was completed on time and on budget. Previous custom and 3rd party tools were removed with TMWA using the delivered solution best practices. The more intuitive system has proven to enhance productivity while optimizing processing.

Once we were in D365, we could really dive into broadening our footprint, evaluating existing processes and improving those processes. That’s where OnActuate came in. We were trying to find a vendor that could help us do that and understand our needs. We wanted to do it quickly, efficiently, and as cost-effective as possible and OnActuate did it better than anybody else.
